Costa del Sol beach is a natural gem located in the department of La Paz, in the central area of El Salvador.
Unlike the rock formations and cliffs that characterize the beaches in the east and west of the country, this area is surrounded by a beautiful valley, where it is easy to see some of the most beautiful and majestic Salvadoran volcanoes, at whose feet there are seas of undulating sugar cane fields and other local crops.
The Costa del Sol offers visitors a perfect combination of attractions that make it a world-class beach destination. If you are looking for a place to enjoy the sun from sunrise to sunset, an endless white sand beach, all kinds of accommodations, a wide selection of Salvadoran and international cuisine, and the additional attractions of being surrounded by an immense navigable estuary and waves for good surfing, this should be your choice.
This beach is 15 kilometers long, and in terms of surfing, it is characterized by the sandbanks that form throughout the surf zone; These waves generate fast waves, which break both to the right and to the left, usually tubular, and truly challenging when a little wind blows from the north, which raises their crests and increases the size of the wall to maneuver, which can reach up to 9 feet high (3 meters).
The best time of year to surf the Costa del Sol is from November to January, when the waves of the South Pacific Ocean are not so big and powerful, which allows the wave to break at a slower speed and with greater smoothness. Even backwaters are formed where the waves are small and foamy, ideal for beginners in the practice of this exciting sport.
As a complement to good surfing, the Costa del Sol has an enviable hotel offer and private houses for rent. There are numerous restaurants along the boulevard that crosses it, some very typical, under a canopy of palm trees, and others truly gourmet.
This beach is surrounded by the immense Jaltepeque estuary, populated by intricate and impeccable mangroves, ideal for practicing SUP, canoeing, sailing, fishing and skiing; or to rent a small boat and take a nice ride. If you are more demanding, you can rent one of the luxurious yachts that anchor in its marinas and go out to the open sea for an exciting day of fishing in blue water, where larger species such as dorados, tuna, wahoos, sailfish and marlins abound.
If you decide to visit this wonderful destination, from San Salvador you must take the highway to Comalapa, when you reach La Paz, you join the coastal highway, towards the west, and then to La Herradura street, which takes you directly to the Costa del Sol boulevard.
